BioDiffusion needed a strategy to test their sustainable alternative to petroleum-based resins 

The Opportunity

Petroleum-based products have long been essential in road construction due to their unique binder and resin properties, which are difficult to replicate. However, the construction industry is now exploring more environmentally friendly alternatives. BioDiffusion Technologies (BDT) has created a plant-based bio-resin that functions as a binder, anti-stripping agent and rejuvenator in road/asphalt applications, and delivers results that are comparable to, or even surpass, those of traditional fossil-based products, garnering significant interest from both industry professionals and municipalities. 

The Challenge

BDT’s product had the interest of the road paving industry and municipalities responsible for maintaining road infrastructure. But more field trials were needed to validate optimal formulas and applications to secure customer interest. Field trials are expensive and time-consuming. BDT needed strong leadership, known within the industry, to ensure the proper trial design that would maximize the results needed to incorporate the findings into their commercialization plans. 

NPC’s Solution

NPC provided over $24,000 through its Fast Track to Financing Program to complete the necessary planning. BDT made remarkable progress! They developed a high-quality research and demonstration plan and assembled a team of advisors and customers to help execute it. Additional trials were secured in other municipalities, and a firm commitment was reached with a key delivery partner, ensuring BioDiffusion’s ability to continue to validate and commercialize their unique, sustainable resin for the road construction industry.
