Building a team that can grow a game-changing technology fast enough to maintain global leadership.

With confirmed market traction for their animal probiotics, CanBiocin needed to build the team to scale up to stay ahead of the competition

    The Opportunity

Probiotics are widely known to have profound impacts on human health. CanBiocin’s species-specific probiotics – custom formulas for dogs, chickens, pigs, and more – can boost the health, vitality and longevity of animals. These probiotics have the potential to reduce the effect of illness and disease and represent a total addressable annual market of over USD$5 billion.

    The Challenge

CanBiocin validated a new microencapsulation process to ensure the intended health benefit of the probiotics in the gut of the animal. Their customers were waiting. They were ahead of their competitors. Now they just needed to produce.

NPC’s funding allowed us to find a resource to help our company through this part of our startup journey.…That’s why it’s such a good fit at this particular time and place for us.

    NPC’s Solution

CanBiocin needed to hire someone to manage the commercialization of their new microencapsulation process – someone who understood the complexities of the organisms and fermentation processes involved up- and downstream. NPC’s Access To Talent Program provided capital for a competitive salary to attract the right candidate and ensure a smooth scale up of this new microencapsulation technology, allowing these specialized functional ingredients to be used in a broader array of final product formulations.

NPC is committed to the creation of natural products that are better for people, animals and the planet. We propel early-stage Canadian innovators with the advice, connections and capital they need to develop and de-risk their solutions quickly and efficiently.
