Plant-based biosurfactants
-
Building a world-class product requires a steady partner and strong community.
From early interaction with global industry leaders to a capital injection to help them scale production, Dispersa attributes NPC’s early and steady support to their success
The Opportunity
Many chemicals are derived from unsustainable resources such as fossil fuels or palm oil. Dispersa is focused on the $60B market for surfactants – the ingredient found in a plethora of products including detergents, skincare and even ice cream. Dispersa’s biosurfactant is derived from food waste, creating a healthier product with a lower environmental footprint.
The Challenge
Dispersa’s biosurfactants have the potential to meet the growing demand for sustainable chemical alternatives. But development and scaling require strong understanding of what the market needs, and capital to validate the product at larger volumes.
It takes a community to build a startup. And we’re really grateful to have NPC’s support from the very beginning.
NPC’s Solution
Recognizing Dispersa’s potential, NPC provided valuable introductions to global industry leaders who provided feedback on early formulations, ensuring a truly market ready, competitive product. In 2021, NPC invested $250K through the Proof of Concept Program, which allowed Dispersa to scale their process from flask stage to pilot scale. That provided the data and samples to secure commercial partnerships, which in turn led to Dispersa’s $3M capital raise in 2023. Now Dispersa has commercialized their PuraSurf ingredient, and is ready to scale even further with a planned capital raise in 2024.
NPC is committed to the creation of natural products that are better for people, animals and the planet. We propel early-stage Canadian innovators with the advice, connections and capital they need to develop and de-risk their solutions quickly and efficiently.
