Improving our ability to absorb active ingredients
Folium has created a novel platform technology that helps people absorb medical or nutritional molecules
The Opportunity
We all want to be healthier. The pharmaceutical and supplement industry strives to help us achieve health through active ingredients found in medicines or natural health products. But a number of natural ingredients with powerful therapeutic properties such as curcumin and cannabidiol have limited bioavailability – meaning it’s difficult for the human body to absorb them and receive their benefits. Folium’s technology solves this issue, creating highly bioavailable natural formulations that can deliver maximum therapeutic benefits to consumers.
The Challenge
Folium’s patent-pending delivery technology had excellent in-vivo trial results and was ready for commercialization. It showed drastically increased bioavailability, suitable for oral applications, and with cost efficiencies. But Folium needed industrial partners to co-develop specific formulas. And to secure those partners, they needed a clear regulatory path to ensure a streamlined introduction of the product once developed.
Key steps like regulatory strategies are crucial to our continued momentum. The support and guidance from NPC to help us navigate our commercialization path is really helpful.
NPC’s Solution
NPC provided Folium with $10,000 through its Fast Track To Financing Program to establish the regulatory pathway for Folium’s technology in the development of various formulas for market in different jurisdictions. The work revealed the potential for regulatory approval and helped set the stage for more fruitful discussions with potential customers.
NPC is committed to the creation of natural products that are better for people, animals and the planet. We propel early-stage Canadian innovators with the advice, connections and capital they need to develop and de-risk their solutions quickly and efficiently.
