The Opportunity

There’s a global challenge to produce more protein in a sustainable way. There have been ongoing concerns about the use of antibiotics to control disease and promote growth, which has contributed to antimicrobial resistance, making our antibiotics less and less effective. Phasing out antibiotics has led to lower productivity, reduced yields, and poorer animal health. The high financial losses and major societal impacts have spurred interest in alternative solutions that support health and defend against disease in animals.

The Challenge

GreenSage Prebiotics has developed a unique technology that produces highly effective prebiotics, which contribute to overall health and help fight against some critical pathogens that affect animal and human health. To prove its efficacy in specific animals, GreenSage Prebiotics needed to fine-tune its trials for key markets, to provide the evidence needed for product formulation and dosage that customers and regulators needed.

NPC’s Solution

NPC provided GreenSage with over $150,000 through its Proof of Concept Program to conduct trials on shrimp and poultry to test for general performance such as growth and feed conversion, as well as the response to disease. The results provided in-depth information to plan and execute additional trials, inform dosage methodology, and further develop market opportunities. The data and promising results helped to spur additional interest from customers and funding from regional funding agencies.
