Mixing oil and water.
Infusd had solved an age-old problem; they just needed to prove it at commercial scale
The Opportunity
We all know it can be tough to get all our nutrients from our everyday diets. That’s why the nutritional supplement and functional food and beverage market are booming. Insolubility in water of some of the most important nutrients like omgeas and Vitamin D. Infusd has developed a platform technology that addresses this issue, making fat insoluble nutrients blend effortlessly into water, juice and other liquids.
The Challenge
Infusd knew they had a breakthrough technology. And they knew they had the interest of industry. But as an early stage technology, they had to move from the lab and prove they were capable of producing product on a commercial scale with industrially relevant ingredients. They had installed pilot scale production equipment, and wanted to validate that they could triple their daily production capacity with a wide variety of fat soluble nutrients.
With the proof of our solubilizing technology, we had the interest of the nutrition industry. NPC’s support allowed us to validate that our technology would work at the commercial scales necessary to our target markets.
NPC’s Solution
Infusd worked with NPC to scope out the necessary validation work, outlining the key modifications that would be required to make this critical advancement in production. NPC provided $250,000 through the Proof of Concept Program to conduct the necessary trials. The result was specific product formulas, process steps and conditions for key nutrient categories, generating tremendous interest and excitement from industry partners.
NPC is committed to the creation of natural products that are better for people, animals and the planet. We propel early-stage Canadian innovators with the advice, connections and capital they need to develop and de-risk their solutions quickly and efficiently.
