The Opportunity

The fragrance and flavour industries are grappling with sustainable and reliable sources of ingredients. Manool is a specialty chemical used as a precursor in the development of fragrances requiring a woody, amber scent. Traditionally sourced from the Pink Pine trees in New Zealand, which are now a protected species, industry is seeking a new supply of this important compound

The Challenge

Phytokraft has developed a solution to extract Manool from the pulp and paper industry, creating a high value, sustainable output from an industry waste. But they needed key data to support the development of a business plan, R&D plan and commercialization strategy. 

NPC’s Solution

NPC provided $16,416 through its Fast Track To Financing Program to help Phytokraft secure a sustainable technology consultant to conduct the necessary market research and plans. During this period, several new opportunities presented themselves, including extensive interest from multinational corporations interested in the primary product and adjacent ones. As a very early stage technology, the company established a solid foundation of product/market validation and the ability to articulate their value to potential customers and recognize new product opportunities that are now being pursued.
